Child car seats: correct installation is essential
Young children are some of the most vulnerable people on our roads and making sure they have a safe car seat is one of the best ways to protect them. A correctly fitted child car seat can reduce the risk of injury in an accident by up to 70%.
But fitting child car seats is not easy. We partner with Kidsafe to run annual car seat safety blitzes, and we find over 90% of the seats checked can need adjustments, and in some cases, total reinstallation.

Booster seats: when can your child graduate to an ‘adult’ back seat?
Your child might argue they’re big enough, there’s a safer way to be sure – the five-step test. If they pass all five steps, they’re safe to travel in the back of your car – in a regular ‘adult’ car seat.
Back-seat travel is safest for children aged under 12.

 | BACK – firmly against the seat back |
 | KNEES – bend comfortably over front of seat |
 | LAP BELT – sits low across hips, touching top of thighs |
 | SASH BELT – sits across middle of the shoulder |
 | TIME – can stay in this position for the whole trip |
Front seat travel
Graduating to an ‘adult’ seat doesn’t mean your child is ready to ride shotgun. Children 12 years of age and under are safest in the back seat.
